Welcome to one of the only soaring schools in the country that offers Self-Launch dual instruction and rental. In addition to Flight Training, cockpit checkouts are available for most types, including ASH-25MI, ASH-26e, DG-400, DG-500, DG-800, Grob 103SL, Nimbus 3/4DM, Ventus 2CM, Grob 109, Katana Extreme, Scheibe SF-25, Stemme, Pipistrel Sinus, Virus, and Taurus, Taifun, Ximango, and Vivat.
Our MissionAt Motorgliding USA, our mission is to make you a better, safer, sailplane pilot. We specialize in self-launch motorglider operations, utilizing our Scheibe SF-25C, and provide Self-Launch endorsements in accordance with Advisory Circular 61-94. We also offer flight instruction from basic through advanced cross-country techniques, and provide FAA checkrides for pilot certificates, as well as add-on category ratings.
Company ProfileWe are a small company with the big picture, answering the need for self-launch instruction, endorsements, and certification. Steve Dee, owner and Chief Instructor, is an SSA Life Member, and began soaring in 1967. He is an ATP, CFIG/MG, an FAA Pilot Examiner, an SSA Master Instructor, and holds the Diamond Badge and a One Lennie Pin. His aviation experience spans the spectrum of General Aviation, Military fighters, and Commercial Airlines. Steve is currently a Check Airman and former Training Manager with a major Air Carrier. Bob Smalley rounds out the Instructor staff; Bob is an active Tow Pilot, and CFIG with the Memphis Soaring Society and Civil Air Patrol. Bob's background also includes a broad spectrum of General Aviation pursuits. Self-Launch customers have found the Memphis area a great place to drop the wife and kids off at one of many area attractions, while they master the skills of motorglider operations, and can enjoy midsouth soaring nearly year round.
